Ben Liebrand : "These are the roots of my career in music".
These tracks have determined the path to follow and many of them where revolutionary and truly progressive at the time they where originally released. I have taken the greatest care to come up with the best possible masters, sometimes comparing up to 5 different versions to find out which one sounded the best and most pure. And sometimes even baking the analog master tapes to make them playable again. The heat evaporates the moisture in the coating of the tape. The otherwise moist backing will clog up all parts of the tape recorder the tape touches, leaving a dark glue like substance grinding everything to a halt. After the backing process, the tape becomes playable again and the transfer to digital is performed.
Some tracks feature a combination of vocal and dub version just as I used to perform that combination in a live DJ-set. Such a combination features the best parts from the vocal and dub version, capturing the complete feel of what that track meant to me.
Enjoy!
Ben Liebrand

CD1 (The absolute roots of Ben Liebrand)
1 - Donna Summer - I feel love 8:13 (original 12" version)
This is the track with which it all began. Waking up one morning in the late 70's when a radio-DJ daringly played the B-side of a single. This B-side was 'I feel love' and sent me chasing into town to get it. Probably the first sequencer based disco/trance track ever, 'I feel love' still remains a gem.
2 - Giorgio Moroder - Chase 8:24 (original 12" version)
Standing at the counter at Champs disques in Paris I spotted the name Moroder, the man behind 'Donna Summers' 'I feel love' with a sound track to the movie 'Midnight express'. Stereo sequencers, reverse percussion and wide open breaks make this track one of the earliest trance records ever. The sequencer sound firmly sets the path for me to follow and whilst the rest of the world was still in a saturday night fever, I treated my audience to firm beats and hypnotic sequencers.
3 - Lipps Inc. - Funky Town 7:46 (original 12" version)
All the ingredients where there: sequencers, percussion and the vocoder providing the robot voices. The original 12" version oddly started on the second beat. This version also has the very first beat restored.
4 - Cerrone - Supernature 10:54 (full length album version)
After Love in C-minor which already was daring, Cerrone surprised everyone with one of the first examples of euro-disco. A strong sequencer-driven track with a dark theme and multiple breaks made this 9 minute plus track an ideal candidate for my record bag. This version restores the full drum intro and is topped of by an even longer drum outro than al previous released versions.
5 - Patrick Cowley - Menergy 8:47 (original 12" version)
After stories of a never released Moroder/Summer sequencer based album, I was glad to hear that Patrick Cowley picked up where Moroder unfortunately did not continue. Finding this track on the weekly hunt for new vinyl in Amsterdam truly made my day.
6 - Gino Soccio - Dancer 8:29 (original 12" version)
Gatto Giallo was a small disco at the Garda Lake in Italy. The DJ introduced me to Gino Soccio, Peter Jaques Band and a whole load of up tempo tracks that I took home and played in Holland when everybody was still 'Staying Alive' and having a 'Night fever'. It was probably the atmosphere of vacation in the Nijmegen based KK-Club that contributed to accepting what was played in this small Club in Nijmegen. The KK-Club set the standard and even drew audiences from Amsterdam. Manfred Langer stated in the history of the world famous club 'The It' in Amsterdam, that it was the atmosphere and the audience driven by Ben Liebrand at the turntables in the KK-Club, which set the style and standard for the It to follow.
7 - Sylvester - You make me feel (mighty real) 6:30 (original 12" version)
This up tempo sequencer track started of as a track for a select audience and eventually became a classic. Somehow this track is much more 'sincere' than the later 'Do you wanna funk'.
8 - Gonzalez - Haven't stopped dancing yet 7:59 (original 12" version)
Disco in it's purest form with great percussion and a break that sends chills down your spine.
9 - Kat Mandu - The Break 8:40 (original 12" version)
The break has been my closing track of the night for the entire period I was spinning in disco 'The Kwien' in Gennep Holland. It was a disco in 1978 built in a former movie theater along the lines of the famous studio 54. It had the laser, neon in the ceiling, a video clip system using Sony U-matic and a series of Barco video monitors along the dance floor and throughout the venue. This is where I learned to mix on 2 Dual turntables. It was DJ Huib Luiten who introduced me to beat-mixing and it was a revelation. In a time when DJ's where blabbering away on their microphone, this was something new and offered a perfect way to introduce the audience to new tracks simply by mixing from a well known floor-filler to a new track nobody ever heard before. The break brings back memories of a time you only needed good music to achieve ecstasy.
CD2 (The relaxed and groovy tracks)
1 - Yarbrough & Peoples - Don't stop the music 7:35 (original 12" version)
A classic, which bridge section was recently used as a chorus for an R&B track. Kick back and enjoy the funky bass-line.
2 - Chic - Good times 8:00 (original 12" version)
The mother of all rap tracks. Why, because it's unprecedented long and steady break provided a whole community of rappers with those instrumental beats to perform their rap on. A brilliant track by producer duo Niles Rodgers & Bernard Edwards . A true classic and one of the most important tracks in dance music. Later it was the Sugarhill gang who managed to take it from the street to the record company and back on the dance floor with their 'Rappers Delight'.
3 - Patrice Rushen - Forget me nots 4:42 (original 12" version)
Beautiful sounds, perfect song, steady rhythm and a clean break for an easy mix. What more does a DJ want.
4 - Change - Lover's holiday 6:16 (full length album version)
This was one of those album I took back from Italy, 'A lover's holiday' was the hit, but I played just about every track to the dance floor in the KK-Club. I truly recommend it as it features songs like 'Searching' and 'In the glow of love' with Luther vandross on vocals. (This track was used in a recent Janet Jackson hit).
5 - Oliver Cheatham - Get down saturday night 6:51 (original 12" version)
Long before 'Room 5' version, everybody knew how to get down on a Saturday night. The funky guitar riff and open breaks provided many possibilities to mixing it with a truckload of other songs.
6 - Kool & the Gang - Fresh 5:50 (12" remix)
Another song which lasted due to it's long and easy to mix intro, and even longer and easier to mix-out break. And history has proven that the song itself wasn't bad either. This is that special and rare 12" version.
7 - Michael Zager Band - Let's all chant 6:50 (original 12" version)
There are many versions and remixes out there (with a very nasty sounding drum computer stuck under it), but this is the original 12" version, featuring the original drums, claps and percussion.
8 - Rick James - Super Freak 7:06 (original 12" version)
A side step to the funky side with Rick James. Another track which reached even more people when it was used by MC Hammer as a groove for 'Can't touch this'. This version finally has the bottom-end I missed for so many years. It no longer sounds as somebody accidentally pushed the low-kill-switch.
9 - Sugarhill Gang - Rappers Delight 14:36 (full length version)
The first rap track that made it from the streets into the charts. On the original multi track they re-recorded the vocal part of De-Luxe 'Here comes that sound' which was planned to sit over the percussion intro (Here, here comes that sound, here comes that sound, again and again, again and again, again and again) These vocals where never used due to copyright problems. The sugarhill gang did not obtain permission to make this cover version. Therefore Niles Rodgers & Bernard Edwards rightfully claimed the whole copyright in the song and probably to avoid further copyright problems, the Love De-Luxe bit was left out. Although Wondermike and his rap homies had written all the lyrics, they lost their share due to this copyright infringement to Niles Rodgers & Bernard Edwards . Despite these behind the scene problems, 'Rappers Delight' opened the doors to rap all over the world.
10- Indeep - Last night a DJ saved my life (original 12" version)
A classic and a tribute to the DJ's. The 12" version with all it's extras and the acappella made this a track which stayed on the turntables for a long long time. Even in 2003 there was a remake based on it due to the fame it gathered over the years.
11- Indeep - Last night a DJ saved my life (acappella)
Featuring the world famous words: There's not a problem that I can't fix, cos' I can do it in the mix. Although running time for these CD's unfortunately made it impossible to include even more acappellas, this is one I just needed to share with you. Taken from good quality masters from Unidisc, this version can now replace all vinyl ripped versions in your collection.
CD 3 (The funky grooves and more)
1 - D'Train - You're the one for me 7:16 (special dub/vocal edit)
This version combines the beautiful dub intro and breaks with the splendid vocal version, much in a way I mixed 2 copies of this record live in DJ-sets at the time. Special thanks to Unidisc for digging up this very very rare master of the dub version.
2 - Sharon Redd - Beat the street 7:20 (special dub/vocal edit)
Same story as above: This version also combines the beautiful dub intro with 16th bass drum in a style later also used by New Order, and the splendid vocals and dub vocal parts. Again special thanks to Unidisc for digging up this very very rare master of the dub version.
3 - Carol Jiani - Hit 'n run lover 8:14 (original 12" version)
It took some time to find the right master, but here it is featuring the full 8 bars of cowbells before the bass drum kicks in.
4 - Jacksons - Shake your body (down to the ground) 8:36 (12" remix)
Release shortly after the original version this re-recording appeared in 1979 featuring a higher tempo, new percussion and great additional sound effects. If you already have the original, this is the one that really takes of.
5 - Shannon - Let the music play 5:46 (original 12" version)
Comparing as much as 4 different masters, this one is the one that sounded best. There is a small edge of distortion in the intro, but apart of a vinyl copy which lacked dynamics, they unfortunately all had that edge of distortion.
6 - Freez - IOU 8:42 (original 12" version)
The first track that used vocal sampling to this extent. Produced by Arthur Baker, it is hard to believe that 'Southern Freeze' was a track by the same group. (Or wasn't it..) This track combines electro with pop and the version featured here is the full length 12" master
7 - Class Action - Weekend 8:25 (original 12" version)
Larry Levan Remix
There is an even older recording by 'Phreek' which is also pretty good, but it was the groove in this version by Class Action that made it stand out. Many believe this track to be Todd Terry's track, but he did a remix/remake and this really is the original. Probably due to an edit gone wrong, the original 12" missed 2 bars in the intro right after the piano kicked in. These 2 bars have now been restored.
8 - Moses - We just 6:27 (original 12" version)
One of the better Italo tracks featuring excellent sampled horn riffs and relying on only 2 sampled words for vocals. (I wonder where they where sampled from...)
9 - Donna Summer - I feel love 15:57 (Patrick cowley remix)
Patrick cowley took a vinyl copy of Donna Summer's 'I feel love' and went to work on it making this monumental remix which was featured on Disconet (A DJ subscription based club in the late 70's and early 80's releasing special remixes every month). As mentioned before, this master originates from vinyl and therefore lacks the clear sound of the original. This is the reason why both version are included in this box.
CD4 (Recent classics and alternative dance)
1 - Ce Ce Peniston - Finally 7:02 (12"choice mix)
One of the more recent classics, pretty difficult to find in this full length version with beautiful low end and complete break.
2 - Technotronic - Pump up the Jam 5:21 (Vocal 12" version)
A party classic which inspired me to make an additional version of eve of the war as featured on Styles XL
3 - Robin S - Luv 4 Luv 6:05 (original 12" version)
The second hit featuring Stonebridge's distinctive sound
4 - Robin S - Show me love 8:49 (original 12" version)
One of Stonebridge's first and most successful remixes. Due to a rush-release at the time, all versions in Holland (even the CD-maxi) where vinyl copies. For this compilation I contacted Stonebridge directly and he was kind enough to send me a CDR straight from the original DAT master. So probably for the first time in Holland, 'Show me Love' as it was meant to sound.
5 - Snap - Rhythm is a dancer 5:11 (12" mix)
There are several versions of this track, but this is the one with the synth intro and female vocals only. Great track to combine with the next track:
6 - Kristine W - Feel what you want 5:30 (Our Tribe Vocal 12" mix)
Daring club track by Rollo stretching the point where the drums kick, using practically the whole song to build up to the climax. Great stuff!!
7 - 2 Unlimited - Get ready for this 5:54 (original 12" version)
Long before it became a commercial machine this new release by the unknown group '2 unlimited' found a place in my record box after I wrote 'Great Intro' on the cover. The rest is history..
8 - Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax 7:24 (original New York 12"mix)
What do you get when a great producer produces a track by a totally crazy bunch of guys and leave the majority of recordings to Anne Dudley to make the final mix down. A sonic trip with a song buildup that is so hard to follow that it becomes an adventure each time you play it.
9 - New Order - Blue Monday 7:28 (complete original 12" version)
New Order decided to release this track as a 12" only and simply refused to make a radio edit. This version runs the full length of the original 12" and sounds crisp-clear. It represents a very credible but also successful blend between alternative and sequencer dance music.
10- Yazoo - Situation 9:05 (special dub/vocal edit)
Starting of with the easy to mix dub-version with the famous laugh-break, the track finally crosses over to the vocal 12" version.
11- Art of Noise - Moments in love
A true masterpiece. By the way, I also did a remix of Paranoimia and was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Jeczalik in the Art of Noise Studio in England. Anne Dudley and J.J.Jeczalik are truly the masters of sampling and painting with sound. Respect!
CD 1 (More of my roots and favorites)
1. Telex Moskow Diskow (English 12" version) 05:25
At the time when part 1 of Grand 12 Inches was released it was impossible to get this track, therefore I am so pleased to get it for Grand 12 Inches. It ranks way up there with Moroder and the best of sequencer based electronic dance music. What makes it even better is that the french version is also included as last track on this CD!!
2. Harry Thumann Underwater (12" version) 06:01
It took some time but I finally got a hold of this track and "Baby Records", the original record company it came from. Underwater marks the absolute pinnacle in instrumental / orchestral dance music. It's drive is only equaled by it's excellent orchestral arrangement. It's rhythm and bass line are pumpng and when played in your car, will have you speeding in no time. Special Thanks to Freddy Naggiar for granting me this track.
3. Marin Circus - Disco Circus (full length version) 14:02
Another disco gem for true connoisseur. It proved however impossible to find the full length version. The best that could be found was a master of the first 7 minutes and a quite remarkable quality vinyl transfer. Should it be the better sounding short version or the 14 minute vinyl transfer. I decided on both giving you the first half from the master and the second half of the vinyl transfer carefully matched to the master.
If eventually the full master pops up somewhere, I am sure to find a way to get it to you in my effort to bring you the best possible (and impossible).
4. Harold Faltermeyer Axel F (12" version) 07:12
The theme to Eddy Murphy's charismatic performance of Axel Foley in the series of "Beverly Hills Cop" feature films. A decant master of the Latin Rascals version could not be found.
5. C.O.D. In The Bottle (12" version) 06:03
A well executed electro version of Gil Scott Heron's "In The Bottle by C.O.D. which features also the much used "Uno Dos Tres Quattro" intro. Great stuff and great sound!
6. Dazz Band Let It All Blow 05:51
Why this track? First of all because of the great syncopated synth riffs and daring arrangement, the funky clean sound and because I never could find it on any compilation CD previously.
7. Dan Hartman Vertigo / Relight My Fire (full length version) 11:59
It is true that this record is abused for anything and everything related to the 80's. Nevertheless it is one of the finest pieces of disco ever made. Why does it deserve to be here whilst it was on so many CD's before? Because this is the most complete version ever. The original 12" version featured the 6:52 vocal version and the B-side had the 4:34 Vertigo Intro running seamless into the 6:48 "progressive instrumental version". Somewhere mid 80's the vertigo intro was spliced to the vocal version, but now you get the full story starting of with "Vertigo", the full length drum break before "Relight my fire" , the full length vocal version and the full length drum outro at the end. And all of this mastered from the original analog tapes from the archives of Sony resulting in a whopping 11:59 seconds
8. Supermax Love Machine (12" version) 08:38
This was so over the top at the time that it became cool again. It is a pain to mix as the tempo actually increases during the song from somewhere about 129 to a little over 132 BPM. Nevertheless great sound and master quality.
9. American Gypsy I'm OK, You're OK (12" version) 05:24
It is incredible that this piece of American sounding disco was produced by the same guy who created the cheesy girl group "Luv" in Holland. His name is Hans van Hemert. I'd loved to include the full Disconet version, but there simply wasn't room enough to fit it on any of the CD's
10. Telex Moskow Diskow (French 12"version) 07:28
As promised, also the french version of this great Belgian piece of electronic dance music.
CD 2 (The funky grooves)
1. Grandmasters Flash The Message (12" version) 07:13
From the famous Sugarhill label a landmark piece in Rap and Hip hop
2. Blondie Rapture (full length version) 10:02
Blondie's short love affair with the dance floors of the clubs resulted in this track that might of just as easy been a chic track. Brought to you in the longest version around.
3. Chemise She Can't Love You (12" version) 05:04
80's disco in top form along the lines of Patrice rushen. Mellow tempo and groove work like magic. I always remembered the track being longer, but this seems to be the full running time.
4. Stephanie Mills Medicine Song (12" version) 06:20
Don't you just love that groove!! Great tom fills and sequences bass line combined with a super vocal performance by miss Mills
5. Colonel Abrams Trapped (12" version) 06:28
All time classic in 12" version. This track saw it's life-span greatly expanded by the very use full acappella version included on the 12". Unfortunately there was no space left to include it...:(
6. T-Connection At Midnight (12"version) 09:42
In a time with drummers not keeping the rhythm to tight this was a relief with a rock solid groove probably made from a tape-loop and minutes of it before the song kicks in.
7. Latoya Jackson If You Feel The Funk (12" version) 05:11
No idea how she did it and not a fan of the rest of her doings, but this is a great track and I DO feel the funk.
8. Mimai Sound Machine Dr. Beat (12"version) 06:31
Taken from the original production master from the archives of Sony.
9 . Peter Brown Love Is Just The Game (12"version) 07:00
Great track from Peter Brown. I did my homework listening to "Do you wanna get funky with me" from one of his earliest albums. Master quality form original Production master.
10. The Limit Say Yeah (vocal + dub version) 10:34
Produced by two of my friends (and mentors) Bernard Oattes and Rob van Schaik and mixed by John Luongo (who also did "Relight my fire") this is the definite master to have. Not the radio version messed up by over-eager processing, but the original clean 12" mixes. A and B-side, both taken from the original analog masters. Simply brilliant!
CD 3 (The most beautiful pieces of dance music)
1. Sharon Redd Can You Handle It (Francois K Mix) 08:58
You know the version with all those edits, well this is that same mix in it's original form without all the edits.
It is a true Grand 12 inch, more than a piece of great music. It is an adventure you embark on taking you through more than brilliant musical arrangements with many solos, ad-libs, vocal scats and resolving in Sharon's wonder full vocal performance.
It was mixed by Francois Kevorkian in a time when having a mix neatly and clearly visualized on a computer screen was still decades into the future.
It leaves me wondering how he did it. Francois, let me know....
2. David Joseph You Can't Hide (Your Love From Me) (12"version) 06:41
Mixed by Larry Levan, a close friend to Francois K, this track sounds so great it's unbelievable. Great bass line, funky synth riffs and super drum outro.
3. Sharon Brown Specialize In Love (12"version) 07:13
Listen to that percussion, the delay on the hand claps, those vocals, the solo. Listen and listen again.
4. Jean Carn Was That All It Was (12"version) 06:31
One of my personal favorites ever! It was never a hit, but is always cherished by me and I felt a great urge to share this wonder full melancholic piece of dance music with you as this is also a part of what makes me tick. Brought to you in the complete 12" version taken from the original production masters which had to be baked in an oven for 10 hours at 55 degrees Celsius in order to become playable again. (Serve at room temperature)
5. Mtume So You Wanna Be A star (12"version) 05:19
Everyone knows "Juicy Fruit", but this is probably one of the finest pieces of sophisticated soul full funkiness ever made. Real food for the soul.
6. Hugh Masakel Don't Go Lose It Baby (12" version) 07:35
Raising the tempo and energy a little, here is the full 12" of the version I love spinning in the 80's
7. Mimai Sound Machine Conga (12"version) 05:55
To my knowledge never before released in master quality, here is the full 12" version taken from the original production master from the archives of Sony.
8. Manhattan Transfer Twilight Zone (12"version) 06:06
Manhattan Transfer affair with the dance floor opting for a solid groove but never loosing there sophisticated sound.
9. Donna Summer Last Dance (full length version) 08:10
Still looking to get my hands on "Our Love", here is another track by the true Queen of Disco. Taken from the casblanca box in it's long version.
10. Santa Esmeralda Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood (full length version) 16:12
Taken from a great sounding unprocessed master made in the mid 80's, this is the full length version.
CD 4 (Pop + Alternative + More)
1. The Jacksons Can You Feel It (Live version) 06:08
"Can Youuu Feeeel It!!!!" Yes, that's where Todd Terry has taken it from.
2. M Popmuzik (12" version) 04:54
This is Pop music in the true meaning of the word. It was featured on a double groove 12" version and this is the full version ending with "Loud and clear clear clear". ZTT dug up the master copy for me and although it sounds a bit noisy in the beginning, it still is the best sounding version I cam across.
3. Paul Hardcastle 19 (12" version) 05:14
Paul's biggest hit and rightfully so, here in the original English 12" version
4. MDMC How About It (12" version) 07:24
Produced by Sander Bos and myself and a pretty experimental 12" it became. The track made it to no.1 in the dance charts in Europe and the version presented here is taken form my own master archive.
5. The BB&Q Band On The Beat (original 12"version) 05:55
There is a longer remix, but I opted for the original version comparing many versions on CD to find the cleanest one.
6. Sunbelt Spin It (12" version) 07:38
The first time ever for this to appear on CD. This was one of the tracks that found it's way to my dance floor on the famous Disconet DJ-only label.
7. Felix Don't You Want Me (12" version) 05:54
A more recent "Grand 12 inch". Daring and with great dynamics in it's build-up
8. Yazoo Don't Go (vocal + dub version) 08:25
Presented here in the Vocal + Dub Version. A great New-wave dance track from the 80's in master quality
9. Sheila E Glamorous Life 06:34
(Sheila E.)
There is an ever longer album version, but this is the one that worked best on the dance floor.
10. Macho I'm A Man (full length version) 17:34
Spinning this in the Keizer Karel Club in Nijmegen in the early 80's and mixing it to "Revanche" or "Easy Going's" "Fear". I found a shorter 11 minute master which was labeled being digital, but which sounded over- processed and was pumping into distortion. Frans vd Kamp came to me with a vinyl transfer which simply sounded better. Dilemma.... An over-eager mastering engineer probably ruined the only master version around, so this is the closest to conveying you the way it should sound, and to ease the pain of loss, in it's full 17:34 version.
CD 1 (More of my roots and favorites)
1 Robert Palmer - You're in my System (Extended Album Mix) 06:00
Powerfull funky sequences and kick-ass drums made this track one of my favorites
2 André Cymone - The Dance Electric 05:35
From the "Prince" factory this extreme electric funky track in master quality for you.
3 Chas Jankel - Glad To Know You 06:37
Excellent funky guitar riffs make this track a floor filler despite the wacky vocals.
4 Suzi Lane - Harmony 06:59
Produced by my "Hero" Giorgio Moroder, Harmony features the typical "Moroder Trademark" sequencers and drum sounds. Great Stuff
5 Chaplin Band- Madmen's Discoteque 06:30
It was the Instrumental B-side which became a club hit all the way in America. This Version gives you that Instrumental version and cuts to the Vocal version running 6:30 in total
6 Janis Ian-Fly Too High 06:51
Again Moroder at work for pop-icon Janis Ian. Sequencers in triplet feel and Anonymous Autonomous Vocals to go along. Taken from the original Analog master tapes form the vaults of CBS.
7 Rah Band - Slide 06:39
Before "Clouds across the moon", The Rah Band was already on their way with this fierce instrumental track.
8 The Real Thing - Can You Feel The Force 07:39
Can you feel the force brings back memories of jumping on the dance floor to this funky uplifting track. Can YOU feel the force?
9 Anita Ward - Ring My Bell 08:12
Introducing the pieuw sound of the Syndrum to the world, this is a disco standard.
10 Boys Town Gang- Cruisin' The Streets 13:14
Starting life as B-side, this soon became the preferred track in the Keizer Karel Club. This is disco to the masses, but a lifestyle to those of that particular persuasion ;)
CD 2 (The funky grooves)
1 Positive Force - We Got The Funk 04:31
Warm funk, smooth vocals great track
2 Lakeside - Fantastic Voyage 06:12
"Square funk" is how this track feels to me, and a fantastic voyage it is.
3 Cheryl Lynn - Shake It Up Tonight 05:42
From the early days of Disco spinning the songs in The Kwien Discoteque, this track brings back memories of that huge Studio 54 style disco out in the flat country of Holland.
4 Colonel Abrams - I'm Not Gonne Let You 06:47
The follow up to Trapped, not as big but very good.
5 Crown Heights Affair -You Gave Me Love 05:52
One of my all-time favorites and fortunately not killed by over-playing it.
6 Rose Royce - R.R. Express 12:01
Join Rose Royce on the RR express. Somehow I could never find a decent point where to "get out of this track". Therefore it's a good thing it runs a full 12 minutes
7 Jerry Knight - Overnight Sensation 06:30
Funk for the connoisseur. Excellent track and favorite of many record store owners. This is one of those songs that brings me right back to that time. Not just the memories , but the whole feel of things.
8 M.F.S.B.- Love Is The Message 11:33
The Sound of Philadelphia. The vocals are a bit on the sweet side, but that groove is a winner.
9 Edwin Starr - Contact 07:15
Solid Disco with trademark hand claps, Ben is on the dance floor having a great night, actually believing that my parents didn't know we were in the disco (Clothes smelling of smoke big time). Those were the days.
10 Earth, Wind & Fire - Boogie Wonderland 08:16
The Emotions join E W & F with great vocals and up tempo rhythms.
CD 3 (More Funky stuff)
1 The Reddings - The Awakening Pt1+2 03:32
From the B-side of the "Remote Control" 12 inch, this is one of the finest pieces of bass guitar ever.
Used to test PA's in those days, the occasions where rare where I could play it to an audience.
Finally in master quality Part 1 and 2 together
2 Earth,Wind & Fire - fantasy (Blaze shelter DJ mix) 08:57
It is a recent remix, but what makes it special is that is mixed from the original multitrack using only the original sounds. This version gives you an in-depth look into "Fantasy" giving all instruments and melodies ample space to perform. Great mix!
3 Trussel - Love Injection 07:53
Funky Groove from my early years, great vocals.
4 Gene Chandler - get down 08:18
The master is noisy and although it was no problem to get rid of that noise, it did alter the track in such a way that it simply lost that authentic feel. So here it is including noise in Hi-Fi Stereo.
5 Billy Ocean - Are You Ready 06:46
6 Dynasty - I don't wanna be a freak 07:23
Used by 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor to create their first hit, this is the original 12" version.
7 Herbie Hancock - Tell Everybody 07:50
Rock steady groove, great percussion fills and a break that lasts forever with Herbie chanting along using the Sennheiser Vocoder.
8 Shalamar - Right In The Socket 06:42
Feel that electricity in this early electro funk track that simply sparks with energy.
9 Third World - Now That We've Found Love 08:16
This track is actually the very first 12" version I ever bought, it had a plain blue island sleeve and the moment I love most is when the organ solo finishes and you hear that single hit on the timbales. Something my original vinyl didn't have and this one has, is the acappella intro.
10 The Commodores - Brick house (live) 10:26
The location was juicy Lucy in Nijmegen and this track was that first "All the guys on the Left, All the ladies on the right" experience. (Also recommended is the live version of "yes we can" by the Pointer sisters).
CD 4 (Alternative + Pop)
1 Imagination - Body Talk 06:00
The band that came to fame by adopting one bass sound for all that their hits. A track simply wasn't Imagination without that trademark sound. Body talk was the first in that series and Imagination still rocks the house wherever they perform.
2 Fern Kinney - Groove Me (long version) 08:54
Sequencers, synthetic percussion and a vocal line so "over the top" sweet that it actually works. Add to this the long break and you have yourself a Grand 12"
3 One Way ft Al Hudson - You Can Do It 07:03
This track sparked a whole series of songs featuring a clever organ line that pushed the groove along in 8th's tempo. Rod's Shake it up (do the bugaloo) is another example of this style.
4 David Bowie - Let's Dance 07:39
Being a Bowie fan from the start I never could get my hands on the 12" master of this one, so here it is straight form the archives of EMI.
5 Fox The Fox - Precious Little Diamond 07:27
(Ben Liebrand 12" version)
Released in the same year as Michael Jacksons - Thriller, this 12" version edited by myself, outsold the Thriller 12" in Germany. Thriller sold a whopping 85000 12" versions. My 12" version of Fox the Fox made a 115000 copies :)
The master is taken digitally from the original edited tape and this is as true to the real thing as one can get.
6 Fun Fun-Happy Station original 12" 07:16
Happy station was the first hit for Fun Fun and even became a bigger hit due to my scratch version. That scratch version appears more frequently therefor I present you here the "rare" original 12".
Dario Raimundi told me they fed the trigger for the cowbells through a standard cassette deck and simply messed with the recording levels to generate that random 16th feel cowbell pattern. Whenever they increase volume triggers where passed through and cowbells where heard in 16th pattern.
7 Tavares - Heaven Irresistible Angel Mix 08:35
As far as I know this is the very first time this remix appears in master quality. It was made for a compilation cassette and wasn't even pressed on vinyl. This master is taken digitally from the original edited tape and this is as true to the real thing as one can get. The voice of "sky bird" is performed by Bernard Oattes of "The Limit".
8 Liaison Dangereuses - Los Ninos del Parque 05:01
Crazy 6 beat sequencer with crazy vocals to match slamming out of the speakers in the Keizer Karel Club in Nijmegen. Thank god my audience was just as crazy as I and had enough trust in their DJ to accept was what thrown at them. Those where the days.
9 Talk Talk-It's a Shame 07:01
A true Grand 12" with practically more break than song. Great percussive sounds echoing syncopated and aerie sounds to complete the mood.
10 Faithless - Salva Mea (Epic Mix) 11:52
What can I say, I just love the track.
For this edition it proved even harder to find the right masters. Due to illegal downloads and declining sales lots of record companies are going through their worst time ever, loosing people in key positions in those companies. Not only those people leave, but their expertise is lost along with them.
The assistant today whose job it is to manage recordings and send out masters, does not have a 'frickin" clue what a master is. I was horrified to see that when a 12" master recording was requested, a 7" vinyl was sent by regular mail. Even worse was a company whose assistant just copied anything resembling the same name and same title from any CD they happened to stumble across, and so it happened that I received 1 minute 44 second masters which where taken from previous a Grandmix. Unbelievable! Copied out of a continuous mix and sent out as to be used as a master.
The worst where those companies who DO have the rights but who simply do NOT have any master whatsoever besides a crackling vinyl copy or an mp3 they downloaded from the web.
Bottom line, I managed to delay the release date twice determined to find what I was looking for.
Eventually some tracks where dropped from the list and a couple yielded no other source than vinyl. These were transferred using a Clear Audio turntable in combination with the Denon 304 Moving coil cartridge. More details and pictures.
CD 1 (The Funky Grooves)
1 Michael Jackson - BillyJean 6:25 (original 12" version)
Taken from the original analog production tape as originally issued. No pumped processing on this true master.
2 War - Galaxy 8:11
"To A Nuclear Blast And A Super Sonic Blast" It just doesn't get any better than this.
3 A Taste Of Honey-Boogie Oogie Oogie 5:34 (original 12" version)
Great Funky Bassline, Superb Funkyness from I time where you didn't listen to music, you lived it!
4 Heatwave - Grooveline 7:29 (original 12" version)
The moment I heard that sequencerr bass come in, I was hooked to it.
5 Chic - Le Freak 5:33 (original 12" version)
Rodgers & Edwards dressed to a T, ready to meet Grace Jones at the New Years Eve Party at Studio 54. They never made it as the doorman wouldn't let them in. Can you imagine that? Slushing back through the snow, good shoes ruined, they arrive back and instantly decide on writing their frustrations away. All the rage bundled in 2 words, "F*ck Off" followed a funky riff. Lucky for us that they changed it to "Freak Out" after all.
6 Jimmy BoHorne - Spank 6:59 (original 12" version)
Solid Pumpin' Disco. Wild edits and truly spankin' percussion. Hearing this is enough to remeber the exact pattern of the dancefloor under your feet at the time.
7 Peter Brown - They Only Come Out At Night 6:24 (original 12" version)
Linn-drum pumpin' along. Great syncopated break, but hell to mix out of...
8 Sister Sledge - He's The Greatest Dancer 6:05 (original 12" version)
A Rodgers & Edwards master piece which along with "We are family" restarted the early career of Sister Sledge. This track was also sampled in Will Smiths' "Gettin Jiggy Wit it".
9 Billy Ocean - Stay The Night 6:15 (original 12" version)
Even before Billy ocean became famous with a wide audience in the mid 80's he already showed what it took to get there with this solid piece of dance music.
10 Farley Jackmaster Funk - Love Can't Turn Around Suite 17:14 (Special Ben Liebrand Edit)
Adding the Club and the Dub mix, get ready for more than 17 minutes of Love Ca't Turn Around in supreme master quality.
CD 2 (Form relaxed to energetic)
1 Grace Jones - La vie en rose 7:28 (original 12" version)
Miss Jones gathered a huge gay following right from the start. La Vie En Rose became an instant classic in the scene. just after a high energy section in the evening i'd play this and mix it to Jean Michel Jarre's Magnetic Fields keeping a packed dancefloor all the time. Talking about eclectic....
2 Change - You Are My Melody 6:24 (original 12" version)
Produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Change had one of it's last succeses in 1984. Jam & Lewis went on but unfortunately the Jaques Fred petrus Empire finally crumbled.
3 World Premiere - Share The Night 7:26 (original 12" version)
1983 saw this great funky laid-back dance track with great break and solos.
4 BB&Q Band - Genie 6:00 (original 12" version)
Change along with the BB and Q band originated from Jacques Fred Petrus, who was also responsible for the Peter Jaques Band. As it turns out . This beauty appeared in the last years of his reign. Although Jacques Fred Petrus was credited for production it actually was Mauro Malavasi who took care of that the most.
5 Aretha Franklin - Who Zoomin Who 8:36 (original 12" version)
A nice clean production with great vocals by miss Franklin
6 Deodato - Fire in the sky 6:48 (original 12" version)
A must in any collection featuring tight production and great vocals.
7 Peter Jacques Band - Going dancing down the steet 5:51 (original 12" version)
And a 3rd track from the Jaques Fred Petrus stable. The Peter Jacques Band was a studio project from day one. Subsequent albums used different musicians.
8 Earth, Wind & Fire - System Of Survival 7:41 (original 12" version)
This is E,W & F in the mid 80's. Tight production and great sounds. Samples, Vocoders and everything that dominated the dance floors at that time.
9 Jacksons - Walk Right Now 7:39 (original 12" version)
Frantic energetic and uplifting. tight sounding drums and synth sounds ahead of their time. Sirenes in the break and great stabs.
10 The 3 Degrees - The Runner 7:40
(rare funky long version)
The 8:13 Moroder sound version was still not to be found but I did come across this extended funky bass version which I had not heard before. Couldn't find any reference to it on the web, but it is cool!
CD 3 (My Sequencer based roots)
1 Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls (Produced by Bobby Orlando) 7:51 (original 12" version)
Proud to finally be able to present several of Bobby "O"s finest productions, here is the first.
A year before the Pet Shop Boys came to fame with West End Girls, there already had been a version out produced by the legendary Bobby Orlando. That version is presented here. This is a vinyl transfer as nowhere a true master could be found. And believe me I tried, I harrased the Japanese, bugged 2 German companies and even consulted the source, mister Orlando's Management in the states but unfortunately no real master.
Also other releases on CD turned out to be taken from vinyl. So this pretty much is the best there is.
2 Bobby "O" - She Has A Way 5:50 (original 12" version)
Korg Drum Machines, PPounding sequencer's , pumping compressor limiters, Bobby Orlando at his best!
3 The Mike Theodore Orchestra - High On Mad Mountain 8:14 (Full Length Version)
Orchestarl Disco in it's finest form, Great Strings and Horns, A four to the flour beat and great choir vocals made this track to one of my favorites in one of my favorite era's when people simply came to dance and live the music.
4 Divine - Native Love (Step By Step) 5:07 (original 12" version)
Yet another great Bobby "O " production launching Divine into a short but memorable period of stardom.
5 Bobby "O" - ImSoHotForYou 5:11 (original 12" version)
Whilst we are at it the next Bobby O track with those thumping Korg drumcomputer sounds.
6 Azoto - San Salvador 6:55 (original 12" version)
Latin sounds straight from Italy. It was the loudest sounding 12" at the time.
7 Easy Going - Fear 7:52 (Full Length Album Version)
Vinyl transfer by Frans van de Kamp as not even de original Italien company had anything resembling a master.
8 Midway - Set It Out 6:39 (original 12" version)
Taken from a true master DAT recording the best version you'll ever hear.
9 Flirts - Passion 9:02 (original 12" version)
As fresh as ever and in superb quality. 2 well placed edits make the build up logical again in clear sections of 8 bars making iit much easier to mix in. A legendary dance track and a true must-have..
10 Hot.R.S. - House of The Rising Sun 14:40 (Full length version)
A classic for the true collector. Here presented it it's full length. Electronic Disco from South Africa. For the Grandmix fans', the sounds that start the "classicsmix" intro are from the track "Slowblow" on the B-side.
CD 4 (Alternative and Pop)
1 Georg Kranz - Trommeltanz (Din Daa Daa) 6:19 (original 12" version)
Finally a master recording of this track so you don't have to listen o that nasty vinyl transfer that has spread over the world on some CD's
As a bonus, the Acappeela / Dub version is also included as track 11.
2 Roy Ayers feat. Ubiquity - Running Away 6:56 (original 12" version)
Excellent track which would fit any relaxed house set. Nice continuous groove and vocals that sound totally as if they were meant to work on the dancefloor right now. Great fender rhodes chords sounding totally retro up-to-date. Good stuff!
3 Level 42 - Love Games 7:26 (original 12" version)
Mark King playing the bass like a god. Slap that bass! Saw them perfrom in Cartouche back then. The stage was only a foot and a half high and people where so close to the band members that you could touch the strings of his bass without even having to reach.
4 MaiTai - History 7:19 (original 12" version by Rutger Kroese)
Dutch production by Eric van Tijn and Jochem Fluitsma. This 12 version was made by Rutger Kroese.
Rutger, always going his own dourse kind of dissappeared without trace.
If you know where he is....
5 Mantronix - Got To Have Your Love 8:24 (Club mix with bonus beats)
Lightyears ahead of the competition this track still sounds as if it were completed today.
6 Pointer Sisters - Automatic 6:08 (original 12" version)
Although you do encounter this track now and then, it hardly ever is the 12" version. So here it is!
7 Quincy Jones - Ai No Corrida (I-No-Ko-ree-da) 6:16 (original 12" version)
Chas Jankel's original is also great, but here is master-producer Quincy Jones' remake from 1981
8 GQ - Disco Nights 5:15 (original 12" version)
This track appears in many forms and lengths, this one however sounded the most un-processed, un-remixed and authentic.
9 Laid Back - White Horse 5:45 (original 12" version)
The A-side being a sugar sweet reggea track called Sunshine Reggea, it was this B-side why everyone jumped on Laid Back.
Totally wacked, crazy out of your skull electronic Disco. A bit noisy it does sound, but perhaps that is one of the nice we-don't-give-a-rat's-derriere things about it
10 Jam & Spoon-Follow Me 12:29 (original 12" version)
By now you should know that this series is not a regular dance classics series. It is the stuff Ben Liebrand is made of and being a DJ for almost 30 years I come across many styles and inflluences, not only very old ones but also some more recent stuff. This is an example of such a track that simply is true inspiration to even the most experienced and wordly DJ's. No conventions here, no standard build-up, no rules, no limits, no boundaries, no worn out sounds, no more-of-the-same, no let's-please-the-A&R-guy, no let's-stick-to-this tempo, no need for continuing drums, with propably "the mother of open trance breaks without drums".
Respect!
11 George Kranz - Din Daa Daa (Acappella / Dub-Version) 3:06
As promised, the acappella/dub mix just as rare as the original and here presented in the best quality that was to be found (including contacting Georg himself) Special thanks to Stefan Trapp :)
Special thanks to:
Hemmy Wapperom for going along on this quest for perfection.
Special thanks for digging up these masters go to:
Frans vd Kamp (NL), Eric Ten Bensel (NL), Roel Spee (NL), Eberhard (Germany), Peter Schouten (NL), Marcel Hergaarden (NL), Frank Rivero (Mexico) , Kees Franken (NL), Hemmy Wapperom (NL), Eri Komozaki (Japan), Yuko Suzuki (Japan), Angelina Arts (NL), Stefan Trapp (Germany), Donovan (NL), DJ Ed (NL), Gerard van Dijk (NL), Marcel Kivits (NL), Gertjan Hugers (NL), Jurgen Korduletsch (U.S.A.), Rob Robles (UK), Darren Salmieri (UK), Jan Willem van der Laan (NL) and the members of Mixfreaks. CD 1 (The Funky Grooves)
1 Michael Jackson - Don T Stop Till You Get Enough 06:06
(original 12" version)
Probably one of the most loved dance tracks ever, brought to you in digital Quality
2 Brothers Johnson - Stomp 05:57
(original 12" version)
With one of the most beautifull AND most difficult intro's to mix, Stomp was one of the highlights of my early DJ career. This track more than many other conveys that exact feel of a time long past.
3 Cameo - Word Up (Extended Version) 05:56
Pure electro funk, with pounding bassdrum and slapping claptrap. unlike many other tracks from this style, this one stands the test of time.
4 Rick James - Glow (Album Mix) 05:42
Brought to you in the album mix as the 12" version + reprise was unfortunately not to be found. A vinyl transfer didn't do the quality justice so therefore this version instead.
5 Mary Jane Girls - In My House 05:03
(original 12" version)
Another track Wriitten and produced by Rick James with the beautifull vocals of JoJo, Candi, Maxi and Cheri
6 Sun - Sun Is Here 05:03
(original 12" version)
Sun was featured on a kind of double a-side 12" which featured Taste Of Honey on the other side. just listen to that bassline. brought to you in full length and master quality.
7 Ashford & Simpson - Solid (Special Club Mix) 06:17
What to do, One version had the beatifull acappella intro, the other had the full length experience. This version brings you the best of both.
8 the Floaters - Float On 11:47
Ralph , Charles , Paul and Larry bring you nearly 12 minutes of Float-time. Each member introducing himself. Probably the first attempt to speed dating. Remember that first slowdance. Bet you would have like this version back then.
9 the Chaplin Band - Il Viliero 11:59
(original 12" version)
Presented in it's full length Il Viliero takes you on an almost 12 minute trip of early dutch produced disco. Having traced the master back to the original company nothing else was left than a 7" version. This version is compiled from 2 carefull vinyl transfers from 2 copies using the DenonDL-160 Moving Coil. All pops have been removed by hand over several hours and I hope I got them all.
10 Amii Stewart - Knock On Wood (Liebrand Edit) 06:52
There are 2 12" versions, one with a long drum intro and outro, and one with a short drum intro, but where the song runs longer. This version gives you the best of both. Plus... The intro and outro are steady now. This was achieved by running a click track along the song and correcting the bassdrums and edits which where out of time.
CD 2 (From relaxed to energetic)
1 Lionel Richie - All Night Long 06:20
(original 12" version)
Very tough to mix this one but it sure is one of the most relaxed summertunes out there.
2 Diana Ross -I M Coming Out (Original Chic Mix) 06:00
It appears that Ms. Ross initially wasn't very impressed with the work Niles and Rodgers. The song nevertheless became a classic and this is their alternative mix.
3 the Rah Band - Clouds Across the Moon 06:49
(original 12" version)
Probably composed after seeing 2001 A Space Oddyssey this song was something out of the ordinairy, with a story told about interrupted long distance interstellar communication complete with voice-overs and sound effects.
4 Stargard - Which Way Is Up 06:45
(original 12" version)
Although provided as a master form the record company, I suspect it to be a vinyl transfer. However, it sounds fine and I included it.
5 Mcfadden & Whitehead - Ain T No Stopping Us Now 07:02
(original 12" version)
Another one that sets your mind right back to those days, Ain't no stoping this one. There are longer version out there, but none to be found in the quality of this one. And if the sound is no good, what use are the extra minutes?
6 Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing Suite (Liebrand Edit) 09:24
I've been looking for the right 1" version for years and as it turns out, there isn't one. So I made it myself from the vocal and instrumental master versions which were available. It has a nice drum intro and even a drums only break and now lasts over 9 minutes. This version is has it's first exclusive appearance o Grand 12 Inches 5
7 Soul Ii Soul - Back To Life (12" Version) 07:39
Odd to hear a newer track here? No it isn't, as these are the tracks that influenced my carreer and obviously that evolution did not stop as soon as the early 80's
8 Advance - Take Me To the Top 06:17
(original 12" version)
Yes, this is from Italy, produced by the men who also brought Fun Fun to the dancefloors. Alvaro Ugolini and Dario Raimondi are responsible for this American sounding funky tune.
9 Patrick Juvet - I Love America 13:58
(12" version)
Patrick expresses his love for the states in a musical trip around the states, Transfer by Frans vd Kamp.
10 Peaches & Herb - Shake Your Groove Thing 05:35
(original 12" version)
Energy, energy, energy, shake it, enough said!
CD 3 (Pure Disco)
1 Cerrone - Love In C Minor (Albummix) 16:20
Disco Masterpiece by the man who invented it. 16+ minutes of sensual drums, vocals, strings and ladies.
This version is directly from the archives of Cerrone and comes as is, processing and all.
2 Frantique - Strut Your Funky Stuff (Liebrand Edit) 06:15
Again a difficult choice, should i take the longer version, or the version that's simply better and has a usefull intro and break. It turned out to be the best of both, giving you an exclusive edit with extended intro and break, and an extra check if the drums were running steady in the intro and break.
3 Andy Williams - Love Story (Where Do I Begin) (Long Version) 09:42
(original 12" version)
A very rare 12" here presented in master quality and full length. Even Sony couldn't remeber that there indeed had been a 3" CD which contained it back in the 80's.
4 Womack & Womack - Teardrops (Extended Remix) 07:41
Classy dance track, simply enjoy!
5 Jeff Wayne - the Eve of War (Long Version) 07:00
You mean the album version....No not the album a special remix! You mean the Ben Liebrand remix? No... a special disco remix made in 1978 by Steve Thompson! Are you sure?? Yes I'm sure and after we found the matching catalog number it could finally be included on Grand 12 Inches 5!
6 Earth Wind & Fire - Thinking of You (12" Version) 07:56
One of the few special 12" versions we didn't have yet.
7 Gary's Gang - Keep On Dancin 07:09
(original 12" version)
Took some time to figure out were it could be licensed but here it finally is, one of the ultimate disco classics in full length master quality.
8 the Three Degrees - the Runner (Long Version).Aif 08:11
I was as disapointed as you that I couldn't find the right version for the previous edition. I did come across a decent vinyl transfer which appears to be the only thing left as nobody was able to find a master in any of the archives. So here it is in close to 100% perfect quality.
9 Jocko - Rhythm Talk 07:14
Taking the instrumental version of "Ain't no stoppin' us now" Jocko raps along in the style of the very first sugarhill gang records. A pity he doesn't take a shor break for a short break as ther is no way of mixing out of this one once he's started.
CD 4 (Alternative, Pop and more)
1 Cock Robin - the Promise You Made (Special Dance Mix) 06:33
Seen on enough compilations, it here appears in the full length version as it probably also appeared on the 12" promo. many of the other 12" releases featured a short mix of the same title and not the long version as included here.
2 Time Bandits - Live It Up 07:25
(US special 12" version)
Very rare long version in great sound quality made in the land of clogs and tulips.
3 Breakfast Club - Right On Track 07:13
(original 12" version)
Mid 80's dance track fequently found in the short 4:16 version, here presented in full length.
4 the Quick - the Rhythm of the Jungle 07:18
Brilliant track, happy to be able to finally include it! Great sound. Great Bassline!
5 Boney M - Rasputin (Extended Version) 07:32
What the ..... Boney M ? I know this is an extreme silly song, but it's the 2 minute drum intro I used back then and remembered all those years. Anyway it is very very rare and now you've got it too
6 Mai Tai -What Where When Who 07:56
(Rutger Kroese 12" version)
Remixed and edited by colleague Rutger Kroese one of the more hard to find 12" version of Mai Tai
7 John Miles - Slow Down 04:18
Specially for Hemmy at Sony/BMG, this somewhat shorter 12" version of john Miles. Hemmy thanks or not going crazy.
8 the Human League - Don't You Want Me 03:57
There is a vocal version which isn't long and a long version which isn't very vocal, which one to choose. This time not an edit but simply both versions in the best quality I could find.
9 the Human League - Don't You Want Me (Extended Dance Mix) 07:29
There is a vocal version which isn't long and a long version which isn't very vocal, which one to choose. This time not an edit but simply both versions in the best quality I could find.
10 Automat - Automat (the Rise, Advance & Genus) 16:53
Everybody was in their Soul outfits shaking down to the ground, Meanwhile this was also being made back in 1978. Trance in one of it's earliest forms. The one thing that bugged me for years was that the track had a lousy bassdrum which is now remedied by adding only the low end of a bassdrum to the already existing one. I've done so with the greatest care and in line with the original sounds. Hope you like it!

Obviously, Kraftwerk, the absolute fathers of all sequencer based dance music. Unfortunately, there was no way to contact Ralf Hutter (who I once met in a much to noisy club in Germany) other then riding a bike through his hometown and hoping to catch up with him if I saw him by chance. I have been told that even EMI records does not have a proper means of bidirectional communication. Nevertheless, great respect to Kraftwerk (and if anybody knows a way to contact them).
Bobby Orlando was missing on part 1, 2 and 3......but.....
I managed to incorporate no less than 5 Bobby Orlando productions on Grand 12 inches part 4
Telex : Moskow Diskow. Was missing from Grand 12 inches 1,
I succeeded in getting it! It is now available on Grand 12 Inches 2 !!!
Harry Thumann : Underwater. Was missing from Grand 12 inches 1
I found Baby Records, and it is now available on Grand 12 Inches 2 !!!
Even with part 4 finished,
tracks still not available for licensing included Planet Rock. George Duke : Broken Glass and Herb Alpert's 'Rotation' and the track 'Beyond'
Also the tracks by Poussez and the Players Association were not available for licensing at this moment. And not one decent master could be found of Amii Stewarts knock on wood.
Maybe next time....
